31 for 21: Day 12

Down syndrome in the U.S

Did you know that Down syndrome is one of the most common genetic conditions and that 1 in every 691 babies is born with Down syndrome?

Every year 6,000 babies with Down syndrome are born in the United States and there are over 400,000 individuals living with Down syndrome in the US.

Down syndrome is not a rare occurrence, it is one of the most common occurring chromosomal conditions.

If, before reading this blog you did not know anyone with Down syndrome, you can now say you do, meet Royal, my 7 1/2 month old, bouncing baby boy, diagnosed with Down syndrome in utero.

Before we found out about his diagnosis, we did not know anyone with Down syndrome, now I can say I do, from infants to toddlers to young adults.

I am part of the Down syndrome family, my son has Down syndrome and I love him for it.
